Lula Ethel Tolleson

February 6, 1937 — July 21, 2017

Ms. Lula Ethel Tolleson, age 80, of Cedartown, GA passed away July 21, 2017. She was born February 6, 1937 in Oxford, AL to the late Lemuel Arthur and Lula Vaughan Tolleson and grew up in Tallapoosa, GA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Sprayberry, Grace Lockhart, Mary Duncan and June Mozley; and brothers, L.A. Tolleson, Jr., John Tolleson and Earl Tolleson.

Ms. Tolleson obtained her Bachelors degree from West Georgia College. She taught kindergarten through second grade for 30 years in Cedartown and retired from the Polk County School System in 1998. She was a respected teacher who was known for her fine skill of teaching children to read. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and worked in the nursery. She later joined the Worldview Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and loved her Sunday School class. She always had dogs and loved her animals but most of all she loved her children and grandchildren.

Ms. Ethel is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Yvaughan and Lat Varn, of Lakeland, FL, Tyrra and Marty Hicks, of Marietta, and Renee and Emmett Grandy, of Atlantic Beach, FL; grandchildren, Liam Varn (Hemali), Lace Varn, Embry Ice (Josh), Ryan Hicks, Emmett Grandy, and Elise Grandy; great-grandchildren, Evy Varn and Tessa Ice with two more on the way; sisters-in-law, Mary Tolleson, of Tallapoosa, Susan Tolleson, and Martha Tolleson, both of Carrollton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home in Tallapoosa, GA with Pastor Larry Conner officiating. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday before the funeral from 12:00 to 2:00PM.
