Mr. Matthew Lee Smith, age 45, of the Piedmont, Alabama community passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017.

He was born in Rome, Georgia on November 6, 1972, a son of David and Rita McCain Smith. He was a graduate of Cedartown High School Class of 1991 and a veteran with the Georgia National Guard.

Matthew was an electrician by trade and was employed with Local IBEW 613 in Atlanta. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. Those who knew Matthew, knew him as a great father, friend and a loving son. He was always a selfless caring person willing to lend a helping hand.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: William and Alma Smith and Richard and Julie McCain.

He is survived by his son, Patrick Smith; granddaughter, Aubree Brielle Smith; parents, David and Rita Smith; sister, Katrina Smith Gonzalez; nephews, Brandon and Cory Davis; nieces, Jessica Davis and Marisela Gonzalez. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

The family will be receiving friends Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 11 AM until 12:30 PM EST at Smith & Miller Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Matthew will be held Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 12:30 PM EST in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Drake officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Brewster-Cleveland Post #86 Honor Guard.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Cory Davis, Brandon Davis, Christopher Pyles, T.J. Amos, Jay Jordan and Austin Bedford.
