Charles Ernest Coleman

Mr. Charles Ernest Coleman "Grandpa", age 82, of Cedartown, GA, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

Mr. Coleman was born on November 13, 1939, in Mobile, AL, to his parents, Frank Coleman and Margaret Kemphus Coleman. Charles was a proud United States Army Veteran having served in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a retired tower crane operator, a life member of the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association, and had also worked as a dairy farmer for 20 years and in 1995 he was name Polk County Farm Bureau Farmer of the year. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church of Sandy Plains and also a member of The International Union of Operating Engineers Local #487. Mr. Coleman was a problem solver, and his family will miss his love and how he always made them feel safe and secure.

Grandpa, how do I begin describing you?

You were a mean (but loving), stubborn (but reasonable), bull-headed (no buts here) sapsucker, and everyone admired that about you. You had no problem saying what was on your mind and arguing (I’m sorry, “discussing”) the topics you felt strongly about. You were a natural born leader and my hero. No-one ever had the upper hand on you, you were always two steps ahead. You never went to college, but you were the smartest man I know. I learned so much from you, how to farm, cook, drive, draw, sing, work hard, never give up on your dream, how God comes first, and how to love unconditionally.

I know at times I was extremely hard to handle, but never once did I doubt your love. No-one in this family can say they did not know your love. Even people’s lives you touched that were not family, became family, because of you. You were not afraid to give someone a second chance, a clean slate, to start fresh and be better. You laid down ground rules and did not sway from them. People respected you. I respected you and I thank you every day for giving me a second chance.

You were not afraid to admit when you were wrong, never denied that you were not perfect, and always said you had made plenty of mistakes. Those mistakes you learned and grew from. Mistakes that gave you the knowledge to help and guide others to be better. You were able to handle any situation that came your way. To guide us to not make the same mistakes you did but also not be afraid to make mistakes.

I know you are loving being with the people that passed before you – Parents: Frank & Margaret Campfus Coleman, Brothers: Frank Coleman, Donald Coleman & Gilbert Coleman; Daughters: Tina Pope & Connie Pierce and granddaughter, Stephanie Pope. I hope you all sit around talking about the good times and the stories we loved hearing.

I’m sure Nana (Margaret Coleman) will be reflecting on all the good times and your undeniable love over the last 60 years.

You could barely read and write, but you prayed. You knew the Lord and you knew the Bible. You knew where you were going and so do I. I know you and the Lord are having interesting conversations right now. And I hope you all can hear my prayers and continue to watch over our family.

You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. Your surviving family – Margaret Coleman (wife); grandchildren, Constance Fallin, Charlese Pope, and Calla Bates; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Herndon Coleman (Janice) and sister, Virginia Keel. Linda Doggrell (niece) and many more nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Grandpa, I love you. I miss you.

In keeping with the family's wishes, Mr. Coleman will be cremated, and no formal services are being planned at this time.
