Dorothy Lee Spencer Hopper died Wednesday, February 22, 2023.


Dorothy was born February 4, 1924, in Huntsville, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Thomas E. McCoy Sr., and the late Anna Pearl Woodard McCoy. She grew up in Lindale, Ga. where she was a member of the Lindale Methodist Church.


Dorothy worked for Petrie stores in Michigan for over forty years. She worked her way up from sales clerk to supervisor and was a mentor to many women in the ladies’ wear retail sales industry. After retiring she returned to live in Cedartown, Ga. Once again, she became active in her church.


Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Nathan Godbold Spencer, her second husband, Shelton Hopper, her sister Sue McCoy Smith Brinkley, her brother, Thomas E. McCoy, Jr. and brother, James Edwin McCoy. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Karen Smith Butler, Debra McCoy Massey, Gale McCoy Flinchum, Pamela McCoy Moffett, Leigh McCoy Holst, James Edwin McCoy, Jr., and step nieces and nephews, Kim Hopper Verner, Cheryl Dely, Wayne Watson, Bobby Watson, Steve Tullo, Mike Tullo and stepdaughter Diane Hopper Schmidt.


The family would also like to give a special thanks to Dorothy’s caregivers, Nancy Chastain, Teresa Timms, Cathy Smith, and Teresa Morgan.


Services to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home with Reverend William Coady officiating.


The family will receive friends at Smith & Miller Funeral Home Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.


The Smith & Miller Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Dorothy Spencer.
