James Brewster Bridges

Mr. James Brewster Bridges, age 80, of Cedartown, GA passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017.

He was born in Cedartown, GA on March 8, 1936, a son of the late Herbert and Nina Bridges. He lived most of his life in Cedartown. Mr. Bridges proudly served his country in many capacities in The Georgia Army National Guard.

He was an ordained deacon and a licensed preacher in the Baptist Church. He was a member of Euharlee Baptist Church, Aragon, GA. He and his wife traveled together for almost 55 years singing gospel music throughout the Southeast. As each of their children grew up, they joined them in singing the gospel.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son in law, Dale Roberson; daughter in law, Janice Bridges; great granddaughter, Lakira Green; sister and brother in law, Betty & David Dixon.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Emily Faye Bridges; son, James Brewster Bridges, Jr.; daughters: Neina (Johnny) Forrister, Laura (Craig) Gilchrist and Deborah Bridges Roberson; sisters: Frances (Norvel) Knight and Ann Bridges.

The funeral service for Mr. James Brewster Bridges will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Vines, Rev. Billy Chambers and Mr. Noel Smith, Sr. officiating. The family has requested that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to the Heyman Hospice of Rome 420 East Ave., Rome, GA 30161.

Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with Heyman Hospice Chaplain Allen Fuller officiating. The American Legion Brewster - Cleveland Post #86 Honor Guard will be providing military honors.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: John Pointer, William Dunn, David Green, Shaun Bridges, Jimmy Dale Roberson, Justin Norton, David Dixon, and Doyce Vinson. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandson's, great grandson's, Caleb Fincher and Mart Knight.

The family will be receiving friends at Smith & Miller Funeral Home Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
