Chanley "Joe" Hiett

April 12, 1947 — July 29, 2023

Mr. Chanley Joseph “Joe” Hiett, age 76 passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023, after a long struggle with Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease.


He was born in Cedartown, Georgia April 12, 1947, son of the late James W. Hiett and Clara Littlefield Hiett.

Mr. Hiett is preceded in death by his parents and stepson, Chris Phillips.


Joe was a 1965 graduate of Rockmart High School and also a graduate of Georgia State College. He had a long-distinguished career as a newspaper editor and publisher. After his retirement, he enjoyed being a substitute teacher at Rockmart High School. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Tech sports and watching western movies. He loved listening and singing gospel music.


Joe is survived by his loving wife, Linda Sparks Phillips Hiett; children, Madison Hiett, Elizabeth Hiett, Michael Hiett, Jeffery Hiett, Loraine Mullin; brother, Horace Hiett; grandchildren: Sean Gall, Bronson Phillips, Victoria Williams, William Phillips, Emelia Taylor, Maria Irvin, and Phillip Mullin; and ten greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held, Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Victory Baptist Church, with Reverend Levi Wyatt and Reverend Charles Dyer officiating.
