Glenn Campbell

Polk County lost a legend this week. Mr. Glenn Wade Campbell of Rockmart, Georgia, left this earth on August 6, 2025. Glenn was born on June 5, 1948. He was the son of the late Billy Campbell and Tommie Lou Simpson Campbell, and was raised on Grady Road in Rockmart, Georgia.

Glenn was raised helping on the family farm, milking cows and working the garden. He was a 1967 graduate of Rockmart High School, where he loved football more than the classroom. He continued his education at Coosa Valley Technical School. Glenn was a proud veteran of the United States Army National Guard.

Glenn began working at the General Electric Medium Transformer Plant in Rome, GA, as an impulse tester, where he worked for 30 years until retirement. After retirement, Glenn worked for Haralson Pest Control in Rockmart, Georgia. He was also co-owner of Elm Street Pawn in Rockmart.

As a child, Glenn attended Antioch Baptist Church with his family, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He did not believe in over-complicating salvation; he was known to quote words from Acts 2:21 and Romans 10:13, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” During his adult years, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Rockmart, where he formerly served as chairman of the property committee and as an usher. He enjoyed spending time with his church family, especially when it involved meals.

Glenn was an avid golfer, enjoying the game with his many friends at Cherokee Country Club in Cedartown, Georgia, and at other courses throughout the country. He was a lifelong farmer, raising beef cattle and harvesting hay. He loved the community where he grew up and passionately worked to protect Grady Road.

Glenn was a trader at heart. He started as a child, riding his bike with a basket full of vegetables from the garden to sell to the neighbors in Grady. One of his frequent quotes was, “Everything is for sale except for Linda and the girls.” He was famous for selling knives, coins, tool handles, and random items out of his car, and could be heard on the local radio shows, Swap Shop and Trading Post, most mornings. One of his many pieces of advice was to never lose a sale because you can’t make change—evidenced by the wad of cash he carried, rolled in a rubber band in his front pants pocket.

Glenn was very social and had a diverse group of friends. One of his nicknames was “Agitator” because he was always joking and stirring things up to have fun—sometimes just to get a reaction!

From the country club to the church to the cattle sale, he was loved by many. In recent months, he could often be found at Bojangles, Krystal, Planet Fitness, the Cherokee card table playing gin, or sitting by the Regency Towers pool in the role of “Lifeguard.” Glenn was known for his direct communication style—there was rarely a question about where he stood on any given topic. His willingness to challenge was usually met with respect, even if he disagreed with others’ opinions. He had the unique ability to turn simple conversations into teaching moments, and the lessons learned—although rough around the edges at times—were always meant in love. He loved deeply, and beneath the rough exterior was one of the most tender hearts the Lord has ever made.

He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Linda Garrison of Taylorsville, GA, on June 21, 1969. Together they had two daughters: April Lynn Campbell Oatts of Hopkinsville, KY, and Nicole Paige Campbell Hunt of Rome, GA, who married Steven Hill Hunt. His children were the joy of his life... until his four granddaughters came along to add to this joy: Campbell Nicole Hunt, Ajae Glynn Oatts, Sarah Katherine Hunt, and Callie Elizabeth Hunt. He was loved by all of them and will be missed beyond words.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald James Campbell, and brother-in-law, Donold Hugh Garrison. Survivors, other than his wife, children, and grandchildren, include his sister Judith Katherine Williamon and her husband Tony; sister Margie Elizabeth Prather and her husband Duwayne; sister-in-law Cathy Campbell; brother-in-law Chuck Garrison and his wife Dianne; and sister-in-law Diane Bockholt and her husband Tim. He also had dozens of nieces and nephews who will miss the attention from their “Uncle Glenn.”

Funeral services for Mr. Glenn Campbell will be held Friday, August 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM, in the sanctuary of Rockmart First Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in the family lot of Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rockmart American Legion Brown-Wright Post 12 Honor Guard providing military honors.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 8, 2025, in the Great Room of Rockmart First Baptist Church, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Jay Campbell, Bobby East, Brody Henderson, Chad Bullington, Kyle Bailey, Tim Bockholt, and Ronnie Gravley.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Shayne Garrison, Cody Henderson, Chuck Garrison, DuWayne Prather, and Tony Williamon.
