James Lawson Short, Jr.

February 11, 1961 — December 3, 2025

Mr. James Lawson Short, Jr., age 64, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

Mr. Short was born February 11, 1961, in Rome, Georgia, son of James Lawson Short, Sr. and Nell Short.

He was a devoted husband, a loving brother and son, and a proud family man. He enjoyed the simple things in life — hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with the people he loved. He could talk for hours with his family and never missed a chance to brag on them. To many, he was “Daddy,” a name that showed how welcoming and caring he was. He coached Little League for 16 years and touched many young lives along the way. His grandkids adored their “Pawpaw,” and being a father and Pawpaw meant the world to him. His example in marriage and fatherhood is one his children will carry with them. He was a simple man who never met a stranger, and he made everyone feel like family. His love, kindness, and steady presence will be remembered always.

Mr. Short is preceded in death by many loving aunts and uncles.

Mr. Short is survived by his loving wife, Regina Gentry Short; sons, Trent Short and his wife, Kara, and Tyler Short and his wife, Katy; dearly loved grandchildren: Henley Short, Isaac Short, Harper Short, Lawson Short, and Toccoa Short; his beloved parents, James Lawson Short, Sr. and Nell Short; siblings, Bill Short, and Connie Shaw; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Short will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Mr. Elex Jarrell officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Short's family will receive friends, on Saturday at the funeral home, from 12:00 PM until the service hour.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Adam Short, Justin Short, Sam Short, Bubba Short, Hunter Short, and Joey Sorrells.

The Smith & Miller Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. James Lawson Short, Jr.
