JoAnn Sanders

Ms. JoAnn Sanders, age 86, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

Ms. Sanders was born September 12, 1938, in Rome, Georgia, daughter of the late Frances “Bill” Blankenship and Racheal Ayers Blankenship.

Ms. Sanders retired from Goodyear Tire Company after many years of hard work and dedication. She later opened “Jo’s Family Restaurant,” where she could do what she loved most—cooking for others and making them feel at home. She was known for her kindness and the many thoughtful ways she cared for those around her. Children and the elderly held a special place in her heart, and she made it a routine to spend time sitting and talking with older friends for hours on end. She also loved doing crafts. Ms. Sanders had a giving spirit, a strong work ethic, and a heart full of love that touched everyone she met.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Sanders is preceded in death by her daughter, Connie McElwee; great-grandson, Logan Sanders; brothers: Billy Blankenship, Wayne Blankenship, Earl Blankenship, and Donnie Blankenship; and sister, Carol Griffith.

Ms. Sanders is survived by her son, Nicky Sanders; grandchildren: Zach Sanders and his wife, Colleetoe, and Adrianna Sanders; great-grandchildren: Bailey Dover (Israel), Zachary Sanders, and Payton Brown; great-great-grandchildren: MariBelle, Magnolia, Lucas, Liam, and Landon; and sister, Jeanette Carnes.

In keeping with her wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
