Mr. John Ricky “Big Ricky” Ayers, age 78, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2025.
Mr. Ayers was born October 3, 1946, in Cedartown, Georgia, son of the late Tommy Ayers and Ruth Fortune Ayers.
Mr. Ayers appreciated the simple things in life. He had a special fondness for collecting “stuff” and found joy in the thrill of discovering hidden treasures. One of his greatest passions was attending car shows. A skilled carpenter by trade, he dedicated many years to his craft. Above all, Mr. Ayers cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, always placing his loved ones at the heart of his life. He especially treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. His presence, warmth, and steady love will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers is preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty years, Mrs. Lois Redmond Ayers; sons: John Ricky Ayers II, and John Ricky “Little Ricky” Ayers III; brother, Edward Ayers; sister, Ann Tetreault; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ayers is survived by his daughter Brandi Johnson and her husband, Corey; grandchildren: Andrew Ayers, and Brayden Johnson; great-grandchildren: Shereha “Gracie” Banks, and Isaiah “King” Johnson; sisters: Sara Davis, Teresa Lemming, and Dale Boyd; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Ayers will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Reverend Brady West officiating, and Brandi Johnson giving a eulogy. Interment will follow in Northview Cemetery.
Mr. Ayers’ family will receive friends, also on Wednesday at the funeral home, from 1:00 PM until the service hour.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Corey Johnson, David Ayers, John Wesley Davis, Brayden Johnson, Curtis Brown, and Don Lemming.
