Joseph "Michael" Merritt

Mr. Joseph “Michael” Merritt, age 62, of Buchanan, GA passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024.

He was born in Cedartown, GA on September 13, 1961, a son of Joseph Lucas Merritt and Nora Matthews Merritt. 

Michael was a graduate of Cedartown High School. He was always a hardworking man who could fix anything that was broken. He always had a big heart for taking care of everyone.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Lucas Merritt; mother, Nora Matthews Merritt; wife, Donna “Starr” Barnett Merritt; brother, Ronnie Merritt; and brother-in-law, Jerry Gurley.

Survivors include his children, Caitlin Keller (Jon), Zach Merritt (Kelsey); granddaughter, Anna Kate Merritt; brothers and sisters: Scottie Merritt, Barry Gibbs, Darlene Gurley, and Tammy Pointer (Jason); several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

The family will gather and receive  friends Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Smith & Miller Funeral Home. No formal services will follow the visitation. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that flowers please be omitted, and memorial contributions can be made to Smith & Miller Funeral Home to assist with expenses.
