Mary Frances Hicks

Mrs. Mary Frances Hicks, age 79, of Cedartown, Georgia passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026. 

Frances was born in Cedartown, Georgia, to the late Murray Shiflett and Martha Shiflett, on October 12, 1946.

Frances was married sixty-two years to the love of her life, Terry. Together they had two beautiful children, Lee Hicks and Nora Dixon. Through her children she gained the lights of her life, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. For over forty years, Frances dedicated herself to caring for others as a bus driver for Polk School District, where she touched the lives of countless children. She was a woman of many talents and expressed her love through her creativity, making everything from curtains and crochet blankets to wedding dresses. Whatever she set her mind to, she accomplished with skill and care. Frances was not afraid of trials and tribulations because her faith was rooted in Christ. Her prayer life was central to who she was. She had a warm, loving, spirit that made her easy to love and she cherished the many friendships she built throughout her life, including; Barbara Smith Knight, the Hen House Ladies, Jo Roberts, Patricia Black, and her neighbors on Tuck St.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers; Seals Shiflett and Charles "Bull" Shiflett, and sisters; Jean Davenport and Carolyn Blair.

Frances is survived by her beloved husband, Terry Hicks; her son, Lee Hicks and his wife, Jane; her daughter, Nora Dixon; and her cherished grandchildren: Erin Puckett, Tristan Hicks, Anna Dixon, and Alex Dixon; and her great-grandchildren: Shelbee Puckett, Jensen Hicks, and Tate Hicks.

Services for Mrs. Frances Hicks will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Reverend Anthony Trawick officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Smith & Miller Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Alex Dixon, Tristan Hicks, Kyle Puckett, David Thompson, Anthony Howard, and Wayne Davenport. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Thompson and Leland Ledford.
