Thomas "Tommy" Johnson

February 9, 1942 — April 4, 2026

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Thomas (Tommy) Charles Johnson, who passed away after a long illness on April 4th, 2026.

Tommy had been residing in Georgia since June 2020. Prior to that, he was a longtime resident of Columbus, Indiana, where he made his home following the completion of his military service in Italy in 1965.

He was born on February 9, 1942, in Cartersville, Georgia, the son of Charles A. Johnson and Jean Kelley.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Tommy was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist who found great joy in hunting and fishing. Whether deer, raccoon, rabbit, or squirrel hunting, he spent countless hours preparing for the seasons—often scouting trails and habitats months in advance. And when it wasn’t about scouting, it was relaxing at his favorite fishing spots or in front of the TV, enjoying racing. These pursuits and passions brought him peace and happiness throughout his life.

He was a proud Air Force veteran and a dedicated supporter of fellow servicemen and women, advocating for their rights and honouring their sacrifices. He served several years as a past president of the American Legion in Columbus and was an active member of the Shriners, where he was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand and contribute to charitable causes.

Tommy spent the majority of his working life at Reliance Electric, where he was a committed union member.

He also had a deep love for dogs—whether for hunting or family pets, there was always a dog by his side, providing loyalty and comfort.

He is survived by his daughter Antonella Kim Johnson and her husband Enzo Vaccari, and their children Emily and Alessandro; his son Paul C. Johnson and his companion Annette Huller, along with daughter-in-law Charlotte Johnson and granddaughters Victoria and Sarah; sister-in-law Margaret Johnson, niece Lindsay Johnson Heck (Stephen and children Coby, Elin and Sawyer), and nephew Eric Johnson; stepbrother Gary Johnson (Kathy) and nephew Shane and niece Shauna Zapfe (Chuck); stepsister Kim Voyages and two nieces Shannon and Whitney; stepbrother Bobby Johnson, and stepsister Diane Johnson Riggs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Johnny A. Johnson; and his son Thomas J. Johnson.

In accordance with his wishes, Tommy will be cremated, and his ashes will be dispersed in his old deer camp stomping grounds—a place where he found his greatest happiness.

The Smith & Miller Funeral is honored to serve the family of Mr. Thomas "Tommy" Johnson.
