Wiley C. Hillman, age 99, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on May 27, 2025, after an extended illness. He was lovingly cared for by his nephew Glenn Campbell, devoted family members, compassionate healthcare friends, and hospice caregivers.
Born in Virginia on January 18, 1926, Mr. Hillman lived a remarkable life filled with service, devotion, and vibrant personality. He proudly served as a corporal in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946, in World War II. Following his military service, he spent many years working at the Chrysler automobile manufacturing plant in Michigan until his retirement.
After retiring, Wiley and his beloved wife, Sara Campbell Hillman, returned to her hometown in Polk County, Georgia. Sara preceded him in death in 2011. Their loving partnership was a strong and enduring example for their family and friends.
Wiley had an energetic spirit and a distinctive northern dialect that made him unforgettable to all who knew him. He was an avid golfer, spending countless joyful days at the Cherokee Golf Club with close friends, enjoying rounds of golf and games of gin. He took great pride in sharing his love for the game with his nephews and friends.
He also developed a passion for photography, capturing special moments and sharing treasured photos with his family. His photos became lasting memories and a source of joy for those he loved.
Mr. Hillman was a man of strong Christian faith and a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church in Polk County, where he taught Sunday School for many years. His teachings and example reflected his deep love for God and commitment to serving others.
Wiley will be laid to rest beside his cherished wife, Sara, at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, May 30, 2025, at 3:00 PM. Full military honors will be provided by the Rockmart American Legion Brown-Wright Post 12 and remarks of remembrance will be given by family members.
He is survived by a brother in law, James McCurry of Cedartown also many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews, who dearly loved their “Uncle Wiley.”
He will be remembered for his lively spirit, strong values, and the deep love he gave to his family and friends. His legacy of love and faith will live on in all who knew and loved him.
